Ski area Flachau in Ski amadé

snow space Flachau ski area

Skiing in the "spaciest" ski area on the planet

snow space Flachau, the home planet of Hermann Maier, ranks as an innovative ski area in the Ski amadé ski alliance, Austria. The top priority of Flachau Mountain Railways is to “beam“ its ski passengers onto the mountains as fast as possible. To do this, completely "futuristic technology" comes into play, or, to be more precise, the most innovative cable car technology available. As the actual purpose of going up the mountain is to have the pleasure of a fantastic run down it again, naturally snow space also prepares the slopes and provides artificial snow, if needed, using technology from the future...

Wide, excellently groomed downhill runs

A wide range of slopes offers the perfect slope for every level of ability. From the Hermann Maier World Cup run, the timed section, the floodlit ski slope and the family runs to the practice slope - there's something for everyone here. Three ski runs into the valley provide individual starting points and skiing pleasure all the way into the village.
Some 24 ski huts, mountain restaurants and wonderful sunny terraces let you round off your day’s skiing however you like, from a cosy, traditional atmosphere to the pulsing , après-ski high life.

snow space Flachau is the centre of Ski amadé, Austria's largest skiing playground, with five top class regions and 25 ski resorts. With just one ticket you can also be part of Ski amadé and make use of a total of 860 kilometres of piste and 270 lifts.

100% guaranteed snow

snow space Flachau ensures absolute guaranteed snow on the slopes. If ever there is not enough snow, snow space Flachau is already prepared for this with a state-of-the-art snow-making system. With over 200 snow machines and five snow-making reservoirs containing 180,000 m3 of water, 100% of the piste area can be artificially covered in snow – and it only takes 120 hours maximum!

To do this, we just need a wet-bulb temperature of  -5°, which is the equivalent of a temperature of -4° Celsius and humidity of 80%. All the components necessary for the snow-making system are networked together in a main control centre. The main control centre is connected to the pump stations and sliding ducts by a fully fibre optic cable network, a radio network ensures seamless communication between the main control centre and the individual snow machines. snow space Flachau – also light years ahead in making snow!

World Cup quality slopes in the Salzburg ski area

The skiing star Hermann Maier and the snowboard queen Claudia Rieger learned how to become world champions in Flachau. Flachau is the home of winners and the mother country for skiing and snowboarding. For years snow space Flachau has been a well-known and popular training location for many national ski teams and top downhill racers such as Manuel Kramer, and in recent years it has also become an international meeting place for world stars from sports, politics and the cultural arena.  Following in the tracks of the winners!

International ski resort awards for snow space Flachau

snow space Flachau has already achieved many international ski resort awards and in this regard has even surpassed its competition from Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and Switzerland. Taking first prize for the best ski area in the categories of friendliness, slope maintenance, snow-making and marketing proves that snow space Flachau is simply light years ahead. The snow space Flachau ski slopes, especially, are constantly winning prizes.

In 2010/11 snow space Flachau received 13 awards from skiresort.de, the largest test portal for ski areas in the German-speaking regions, including a prize for top ski area, top range of slopes, top lifts and cable cars, and also the top prize for families and children.
